Reader’s Question:

Is it possible for somebody here in Florida to get auto insurance policy without owning a car? It’s just a question. I have a car and auto insurance.

Remy, here’s how it usually goes: you get a driver’s license, buy a car and then purchase auto insurance policy in Florida. It’s easier that way, and it makes a lot of sense, too. However, if you follow the less beaten track of buying auto insurance policy before having a car, you may still get auto insurance coverage. There are people who travel around a lot, and they just rent cars wherever they go. They need to purchase auto insurance coverage first before they can rent a car. That instance would perfectly fit the situation you have given. Car rental companies require their customers to have auto insurance first before letting them dive away with their car.

But if you really want to purchase auto insurance without a car or with no plans of renting a car, you would still be able to buy an auto insurance policy. This is not going to be easy, though. You’d have to ask around in order to find an auto insurance company that will offer you a quotation. It’s going to be hard, but there insurance companies that cover this kind of scenario. The premium is going to be much higher than the regular rate. When an auto insurance company offers a quotation, it means that they have already appraised everything about you and your car. It means that they have already calculated your risk factor, the risk factor of your car and your home or office address, as this is where you will be parking your car. Since you and your address are the only ones available, their variables in calculating your risk factor are incomplete. This is the reason for the higher auto insurance premium rate. If they decide to go ahead with your coverage, they will be insuring you and whatever car you decide to drive. Of course, you would still need to check the fine prints of your auto insurance policy just to be sure about the coverage.
