Reader’s Question:

If I don’t have auto insurance at this time because I do not own a vehicle, when I purchase a vehicle can I get insurance in Florida?

Yes, if you have a valid driver’s license you should be able to buy insurance for a vehicle when you do purchase a new or used car.

If you would like to begin an insurance policy before owning a vehicle, to get a car insurance history started for yourself and cover you when operating other people’s vehicles until you get your own, then you can obtain a non-owner’s policy now. There is no reason to buy a non-owners policy unless you have a specific need to be covered when you don’t own a vehicle. Typically, the reason for this is because you need to satisfy state requirements or you borrow and/or rent other cars often.

Non-owners insurance is coverage to provide a motorist liability protection for when they are at fault in an accident but do not own a car. Non-owners policies can typically include liability, uninsured/underinsured motorist coverages and medical payments,.
