sr22 insurance Iowa
Reader’s Question:
How long do you have to carry an sr22 in the state of Iowa?
Carrie
Thank you for asking Carrie.
The Iowa Department of Transportation states that future proof of financial responsibility is required from the first day of your suspension for a conviction, unsatisfied judgment, or violation of the OWI law, and lasts for 2 years. If you fail to show proof or maintain future proof your license and registration may be suspended.
To file future proof of financial responsibility you will have to have your Iowa Authorized insurance company file Form SR-22 (Certificate of Automobile Liability Insurance) with the Office of Driver Services.
In addition to that you will also have to show future proof after a suspension of your license for convictions or for driving while intoxicated. sr22 is required from the first day of your revocation or suspension and lasts two years.
If you are required by the state of Iowa to file a SR-22 you must check with the Department of Transportation to make sure how long your case requires you to carry this certificate of financial responsibility.
Goodluck!
